THE FUTURE DEPENDS ON YOUR TEN BUCKS!

Please humor me for just a moment and read this short note about the future of our world and how YOU can make a difference.

Imagine a small town with just 2 businesses that create 2 groups of people with the ability to purchase goods: a farmer and a grocer are good examples. The farmer raises sweet corn and sells it to the grocer. The grocer pays the farmer who pays his workers who, in turn, go to the grocer and purchase other goods. The money in this small town is going back and forth and is sustaining all who live within. Let's say for example, this grocer finds out that he can purchase sweet corn from another town for a fraction of the price he's paying his local farm. Let's say that the grocer decides to purchase that corn. This is great right? He can lower his prices and still make more money, right? Wrong. What he just did is deny his fellow citizen of said small town the ability to purchase his goods. You see, even if they are less expensive now, his money has left his local economy and those who normally would have it and be able to purchase his goods, now have no purchasing power. In saving money on his products, he's shot himself in the foot. Had he kept his dollar with other local businesses, it would have had a better chance of finding it's way back into his own pocket.

What does this mean to you and why in the world would someone selling something over the world wide web bring this up?! Well, to make it simple, I'll say this; I want your business. I want your money. I want the ability to take your ten dollars to the grocer and buy some bread and eggs with it. Having said that, I feel very strongly that the future of our world depends on our ability to sustain ourselves locally. Just as in the example above, the farmer was unable to purchase goods from the grocer because he sent his money out of town, your local artists may not be able to purchase the goods and services that sustain you. I know this example is small compared to the world we live in, but to a lesser scale this is what we are all doing. Very slowly and one by one, we are eliminating buying power and entire industries in our pursuit of a lower price. Please take a moment and consider the high cost of these low prices.

Please check into your own local artists for your needs first. If you cannot find one, don't like their work, can't afford them or just think my work is the bee's knees, I'd love your business.

Thank you for taking the time to humor the ramblings of a starving artist with an overly developed conscience.
